IOWA COURT REPORTERS ASSOCIATION

Kara Holland, CSR, RPR

I graduated high school from Sioux City, Iowa, and then attended AIB College of

Business in Des Moines and graduated in 2007. I had a freelance job waiting for me in

Omaha, Nebraska, at Thomas & Thomas Court Reporters. While there, I worked like a

crazy lady getting tons of experience. Other than taking a ton of depositions, some of

the highlights were doing instant transcripts for the Berkshire Hathaway annual

shareholder meeting and dabbling in the tremendously rewarding field of CART. After

that, I decided I wanted to become an official and started working for the Honorable

Steven D. Burns in Lincoln, Nebraska. I spent about a year there, and that’s when a

position opened in Sioux City working for the Honorable Mary Jane Sokolovske that

ended up bringing me back home and closer to my family.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with family and friends. Even though I’m single

and don’t have children, I have a dog named Totes who keeps me busy. I also love

traveling and reading.

While in Nebraska, I served NeCRA on the Certification Committee and worked very

hard to try to establish certification standards for the Nebraska reporters. Now that I’m

in Iowa, I’m looking forward to my service on the Board as the Past President.
