I completed the court reporting program at AIB College of
Business in November of 1995. I started working for Matheson-Taulborg
Reporters in Omaha in January 1996 as a freelance reporter. In June 1998
I began working as an official reporter for the State of Iowa, Fifth Judicial
District. In the winter of 2002 I attended an ICRA
Mid-year seminar given by Mark Kislingbury and became interested in closed
captioning. In June of that year I attended VITAC's Captioning Boot
Camp at Stark State Community College in Ohio. I began working for VITAC
in October 2002 where I am still currently employed. I have provided
realtime captioning for programs such as news, sports, weather and
entertainment for all of the major networks. In June 2016 I was promoted
to Realtime Captioner Trainer.
In my "free time," I enjoy spending it with my fiancé,
Brian, his 20-year-old son, Nate, my 15-year-old daughter, Chloe, and my 12-year-old
son, Carson. We like to spend time together by traveling, camping
I have served on several committees at AIB and have mentored
many interns by hosting them in my home while they got the necessary
practice hours they needed to graduate. Volunteering for the Veterans
History Project was very rewarding. I'd like to do more student outreach
in the future to get the word out about DMACC's Realtime Reporting Program.
I am excited about the opportunity to serve ICRA and its members by
being on the Board as a freelance director.
