Position Title:

Official Certified Shorthand Reporter

Location:

Fifth Judicial District primarily assigned to work for District Associate Court Judge Rachel Seymour. 

May be required to work for any Judicial Officer in the Fifth Judicial District per operational needs and may require travel.

Salary / Benefits:

Salary range $51,438.40 to $79,768.00 annually-Pay Grade 30

State of Iowa Benefits including IPERS retirement program; health, dental and life insurance; deferred compensation program, flexible spending accounts plus paid vacation, sick leave and holidays.

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from high school (GED); graduation from a school of court reporting with courses including legal and medical terminology, English, typing and law.  Must be certified as a court reporter by the Iowa Board of Shorthand Reporters or become certified within six months of hire.

Duties:

Takes court testimony and proceedings by shorthand reporting methods.  Reads back court testimony and proceedings upon request.  Makes verbatim typed records of such testimony and proceedings as required.  Prepares transcripts, performs general office work and provide substantial clerical support for the court.  Marks and records exhibits during court proceedings.  Electronic document filing is required in all District 5 counties, so a high level of computer proficiency is essential.  Performs related work as determined by the supervising judicial officer or the chief judge or his designee.  Specific primary assignment(s) as designated by the District Court Administrator.

Salary:

Pay Grade 30, $49,670.40 annually, State of Iowa benefits package

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from high school (GED); graduation from a school of court reporting with courses including legal and medical terminology, English, typing and law. Certification as a court reporter by the Iowa Board of Shorthand Reporters preferred, Must be certified as a court reporter by the Iowa Board of Shorthand Reporters, or obtain certification within six months of date of hire.

Duties:

This position is under the direct supervision of Chief Judge Mary Ann Brown but may be assigned to any judge in the district. The reporter will record court testimony via standard methods, prepare transcripts and provide general office and clerical support for the court.

SALARY:

$23.88 - $37.05 per hour, plus full time State of Iowa benefit package. Pay Grade 30

MINIMUM

QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from an accredited high school (GED); graduation from a school of court reporting with courses including legal and medical terminology, English, typing and law. Must be certified as a court reporter by the Iowa Board of Shorthand Reporters.

DUTIES:

To serve as the courts official court reporter for District Court and District Associate Court Judges in Black Hawk Co. This position serves the counties of Black Hawk, Allamakee, Buchanan, Chickasaw, Clayton, Delaware, Dubuque, Fayette, Grundy, Howard and Winneshiek Counties. Travel to other counties within the district is required.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Required Stenographer/Voice Writer Court Reporter: Candidates must meet one of three minimum professional standards to be considered eligible for hire: (1) Graduation from a court reporting school approved by either the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA) or the National Verbatim Reporters Association (NVRA), or (2) Successful completion of the Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) examination administered by the NCRA, or (3) Successful completion of the Certified Verbatim Reporter (CVR) examination administered by the NVRA.
