IOWA COURT REPORTERS ASSOCIATION |
Hello from the First Judicial District! My name is Brittani Meyer. I currently reside in Cedar Falls with my significant other, Joe, and my four beautiful daughters: Brinleigh, born in 2010; Matilyn, born in 2013; Vivian, born in 2018; and Evelyn, born in 2020. I grew up in Decorah and graduated from Decorah High School in 2001. Upon graduation, I attended the University of Iowa. While at the U of I, I was unsure what career path I wanted to focus on. I transferred to AIB College of Business in 2002 and completed their real-time reporting program in 2005.
In February of 2006, I began working for the First Judicial District for Juvenile Court Judge Daniel Block. I absolutely loved working with Judge Block, but unfortunately, was laid off with the budget cuts in 2009. At that point, I freelanced for two years, all the while, knowing my goal was to be back working for the State. When an opportunity came open in the Second Judicial District, I jumped on it and worked there as a rover for three years. I met some amazing people in the Second District and thoroughly enjoyed the work; however, the travel got to be too much. When there was an opening again in Black Hawk County in April of 2014, I applied and have been working there ever since for our Chief Judge, Judge Kellyann Lekar. I am incredibly happy and feel extremely fortunate to be working in my current position.
I served as the ICRA Board Secretary during the 2020/2021 year. I thoroughly enjoyed my time as Secretary. The plan was for me to transition to Vice President in the summer of 2021; however, with the passing of our dear friend and fellow Board member, Ann Moyna, I filled in for the remainder of her term as Vice President, and at the beginning of July, I jumped up to President Elect. The transition has been very quick, but I am going to do my best to learn as much as I can this year in hopes of making my year as President in 2022/2023 a successful one.
